Summer Railfanning Journey Day 1 Part 1: Venturing to Vienna (June 2026)

Now here's something I hadn't thought of doing: Railfanning and Model Railfanning on the same day (technically I did do this on a few of my trips to the Great Scale Model Train Show, but it was only brief). This past June, I went to Washington DC and Alexandria, VA to railfan on multiple days. This is a compilation of railfanning and model railfanning clips from the first day at the Northern Virginia Model Railroaders INC. This video features trains from Amtrak, MARC, and WMATA. Enjoy 0:00 Starting off strong..I missed the first train I caught (thankfully there was another waiting on the other track) 1:33 Brief pass of the College Park Purple Line Light Rail Interchange. The temporary pedestrian crossing is still running over the tracks, but the station now has a canopy. 4:09 WMATA 3000 series Metro cars #3070 and #3071 with a APTA patch. 9:13 While passing through Brentwood railyard, I managed to catch WMATA 7000 series Silverliners #7348 and #7349 in an ad wrap for Steampunk, as well as WMATA's Green track geometry car 10:58 4 Amtrak locos head out of Union Station, bound for Ivy City railyard; among them is ALC-42 #350 wrapped with a DOT sesquicentennial patch. 11:35 Interchange with the Yellow Line to Pentagon 14:43 Here's a look at the bridge construction on the RF&P sub. 15:45 Interchange with the Blue line to Rosslyn. 18:34 Interchange with the Orange line to East Falls Church 23:15 Interchange with the Silver line to Tyson's Corner 30:43 After a delicious lunch at Tyson's Corner, I headed for the Northern Virginia Model Railroader's Open House. This was to be their last open house before renovations would be done over the summer, so the layout will look very different the next time I go there.
