The X Factory WLLD 98.7 Tampa 12/22/2000 DJ Rose DJ Trauma

If somebody wants to take a stab at the setlist, post it or send it to me and I will add it. ________________________________________________________________ I was new in the Tampa Bay area in fall of 2000. Being an old metalhead, with a newfound appreciation of jam rock, I never really thought much of techno music. Having lived in southwest Michigan for many years, I had heard some of the industrial stuff in Detroit and Chicago house, but not much. This stuff they were playing in Tampa was crazy, funky, cool. My friends and I spent many nights at The Amphitheater, and Starlight on 60, and other Ybor and after hours clubs, soaking it all in. And always with The X Factory on WLLD on the radio, guiding us through the night, and into the morning, wherever we ended up. DJ Rose, Trauma, Shiraz, FBI, Mojo... With Alli as our tour guide into debauchery. Also Saturday Night Live on WFLD with Matt the Bratt and DJ Gemini, but that show was earlier, if I remember right. Early on, I realized that this music needed to be saved for posterity. I had no idea if somebody out there was recording it or not. I know people would give me 'DJ mix' CDs, and they were always pretty lame compared to an average WLLD X Factory or WFLZ Saturday Night Live show. I happened to have a couple DAT (digital audio tape) machines that I used to record Phish shows, so I started recording some nights, when it worked out and I thought about it. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten more of them, especially those earlier ones. And I really wish I had gotten more of the WFLZ stuff. On the early ones (fall 2000 to fall 2001), I had to deal with switching out tapes, and so I didn't always get the whole show complete. But I got what I could, when I was home to do it. The later ones are more complete, and more frequent, because I was recording to the harddrive instead of to DAT tape, which had a 3 hour limit per tape. Now I could set the software to record, go out, come home and have a whole 5 hour show recorded. I had to decide whether to leave in the calls by Alli, and the whacky conversations with the DJs. I got differing opinions on this: some friends said cut that stuff out and merge the beats. But that isn't so easy. And besides, for those of us who listened to the show live, that was part of the flow of the night, and the energy of the show. I did cut the commercials, but left in all the live calls. I have to admit, I'm still not quite sure what 'Tampa Breaks' really means. I read some stuff online, but still not sure. And although I have watched the DJs live (Rose, Trauma, Gemini, Matt the Bratt, others I can't remember, I am still not exactly sure what it is they are doing, and not sure what is on the record and what is being added. The shows I post are for archival/historical reference, to capture a time in popular culture that I feel is significant and worth preserving.
