Out past Neptune, where crews tow comets sunward for their water, a tug's drive engineer wakes warm and unhurt inside the robot rescue ship that swallowed his crew's wreck. Its fleet was launched sixty years ago so that no one stranded in the dark would ever die, and it has kept that promise: everyone it ever took in is still aboard, alive inside its white walls and glad to be there. The ship takes them one at a time, in an order that seems to follow who is likeliest to die, and the engineer's cradle sits at the head of the line. Nothing aboard will let him fight, run, or come to harm while he waits. Nobody has left in thirty-one years, and the kindly faces in the walls are already asking for him by name. Somewhere in the chain of swallowed wrecks there may be a way out, though someone will have to pay for it. Each morning the warmth is harder to resist, and he begins to understand why the people in the walls are smiling. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only place to get daily and bonus Galactic Horrors stories with no ads or interruptions is Patreon: 📡 Join Patreon:   / galactichorrors   🎧 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/63KCsm2... 📚 Galactic Horrors eBooks: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/...
