The Neogene period (23-3 Million years ago) could be considered the beginning of the world as we know it. Most animals and plants are easily recognizable as relatives of modern ones. the climate, although still generally warm, was also progresively getting colder and savannahs expanded over the landscape, which probably had some impact on how our primate ancestors flourished during this period
