In the year 410, a British town had tiled roofs, silver coins, paved streets and hot baths. Within two generations, almost all of it was gone — the pottery, the tiles, the writing itself. Nobody smashed the kilns. Nobody banned the wheel. So what actually happened?
This is the story of the broken network: how Rome's tax-and-trade system paid for every skill in Britain — and how, when that system snapped, the skills starved. Told through the evidence archaeologists can measure: a pottery score that falls from 200 to zero, coins clipped to portraits, cattle that shrink in the bone record, and a monk, three centuries later, importing masons because Britain had forgotten how to build in stone.

Honesty note: Historians genuinely disagree about this period — collapse or transformation — and the video presents both sides with their evidence, including where the famous "letter of Honorius" itself is disputed. Where the evidence is uncertain, the video says so. No disputed number is stated as settled fact.
