🚴 Rita Ranch to Kino Sports Complex | Tucson’s Chuck Huckelberry Loop 🌵 Join us for a fast-paced ride through Tucson’s southeast side as we bike from Rita Ranch to Kino Sports Complex using the Julian Wash Greenway, part of the Chuck Huckelberry Loop. The Julian Wash Greenway connects Rita Road with the Santa Cruz River Park and provides direct bicycle access to Kino Sports Complex. This one-way ride took us just 41 minutes, traveling through the open Sonoran Desert landscape on one of Tucson’s best paved shared-use trails. From the Rita Ranch side, the route generally trends downhill toward central Tucson, making for a quick and enjoyable ride. Published elevation data for the Julian Wash Greenway shows the trail ranging roughly from 3,037 feet at its higher southeast end to about 2,647 feet at the lower end, with an overall grade around 0.7% across the mapped section. Along the way, the trail winds through desert scenery, crosses several roads and washes, and passes recreational areas before reaching Kino Sports Complex. Although the elevation change is gradual, you can definitely feel the difference when traveling west toward Kino—and you'll have that gradual climb waiting for you if you turn around and ride back toward Rita Ranch. The Chuck Huckelberry Loop is much larger than this single ride, with more than 138 miles of paved shared-use paths and bike lanes connecting communities throughout Tucson and Pima County.
