He touched his phone 2,617 times a day.
A short film about cheap dopamine — and why a sunset, a guitar or a friend stopped feeling like anything.
What the film is based on:
• The average smartphone user touches their phone about 2,617 times a day (dscout, 2016).
• Your brain keeps pleasure and pain in balance. Every quick hit tips the scale, and your brain pushes back toward pain to rebalance — so you need more just to feel normal (Anna Lembke, Dopamine Nation, 2021).
• Cut back for a while and ordinary joys start feeling good again. The first days are boring. That's the point.
• You don't need more willpower — you need more distance. Friction makes bad habits harder (Wendy Wood, Good Habits, Bad Habits, 2019).
How many times did you check your phone today? Put it in another room for one hour — then tell me how it felt.
