Day three of my MTB road trip takes me further North up to Contin to ride the local trails there. I met up with Neil @invertrialsbiker9391 who showed me around his local trails and what a surprise I got.
These trails were superb and had a great variety of features and style to them. I followed Neil down several of his favorite trails. My legs weren't the freshest as I had a few days of consecutive riding but I soon found a second wind after the first descent adrenaline fueled descent from View Rock which was a flat out rocky and rooty blast back down the hill.
The next trail called White Label was good but a bit overgrown and when riding a new trail I found it harder to commit with speed as I didn't know what was coming round each corner.
The third trail called Camel Back was a belter. Slabby and rocky that linked up natural features almost like they had been designed by Mother Nature to be ridden by Mountain bikers.
Next up was a combination of three trails starting with Permanent marker then your Maw before a climb to finish on Banjo which was a cracker! Apologies if I have them mixed up. Neil had a fairly hefty out the front door crash on this one after catching his pedal on a stop. Fortunately Neil is a strong lad he just bounced back up unfazed vowing to return with and axe to get his revenge in true Highlander spirit!
For the last climb I took Neil up on his offer to tow me up with his E bike as me legs had left the party. I was back up for the final car park descent in no time. Despite the tow I didn't have enough in me to do it justice and a couple of errors meant that I cruised down the last part to keep me in tact for my next destination, the Outer Hebrides. I only did about a third of trails that this gem of a place has to offer so I will be back. Kudos to the builders, Neil included they have made a superb network of local hand built trails that have become my new favourite in one visit.
Big thanks to Neil, It was great to finally meet up with him and also to ride with another rider was also brilliant something I'll try and do more of in the future.
Check out Neil's YouTube channel below. He's a talented rider and has some of the best destinations for mountain biking on his doorstep.
