Wishing you peace this Mid-Autumn Festival. The wild goose is a bird of autumn. What "Wild Geese Descending on the Level Sand" portrays, Is precisely the sky and water of this very season. The autumn river stretches vast and boundless, The sandbars lie flat and expansive. A flock of geese circles down from the heights, Settling for a moment, then rising again. When the ancients listened to this piece, They were not listening to the geese. They were tuning into that poise of "being just on the verge of landing"—a state of effortless composure. This video captures a live performance by Teacher Ma Jun-guo during a Guqin class at the Cameron Highlands Peaceful Farm Treehouse. The instrument used is named "Nan Qiu." The Mei’an School's interpretation of "Wild Geese Descending on the Level Sand" has historically been celebrated for its crisp, sparse elegance. Yet, this particular rendition Slightly transcends the human realm. It is exceptionally pure and graceful, As if stepping into a completely different state of being. Michaelmas is a traditional European festival of autumn. There is a saying that autumn is when the Earth begins to breathe inward. In summer, everything expands outward; come autumn, all things turn around and journey back. The ancient depiction of Archangel Michael and the Dragon has never been about destruction. Michael stands above the dragon, maintaining his uprightness. It is not about resisting the descent, but standing firm within it. Suddenly, my thoughts drift back to "Wild Geese Descending on the Level Sand"— The flock of geese circling down from the heights, settling, and rising again. That poise of being just on the verge of landing, that effortless composure. East and West, It turns out they are both speaking the same truth in autumn.
