First impressions: Gen. 7 Trek Fuel EX and Fuel LX

Trek is back with a new generation of its wildly popular Fuel trail bike, but with a kind of wild twist. Instead of just the Fuel EX, the Fuel frame can now be an EX, a mullet-wheeled Fuel MX, or the 160mm-travel Fuel LX. How can one frame build three very different bikes? And why did Trek do this?
