Why Everyone Is Talking About The Real Tennessee Whiskey Stream Count

Tennessee Whiskey just became the first country song in history to earn RIAA Double Diamond certification — 20 million units sold. Only Bruno Mars and Post Malone have ever reached this milestone in any genre. But the hidden story behind the most successful country single in history has never been fully told. Here are the 6 hidden angles nobody assembled into one video. HIDDEN ANGLE 1 — IT PEAKED AT NUMBER 77 IN 1981 Tennessee Whiskey was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and first recorded by David Allan Coe in 1981. It peaked at number 77 on the country chart. It was considered a failure. Nobody came back for it for two years. HIDDEN ANGLE 2 — GEORGE JONES TOOK IT TO NUMBER 2 AND IT STILL DISAPPEARED George Jones — one of the greatest country voices in history — recorded it in 1983 and peaked at number 2. Then it vanished again. For 30 years. The song failed twice before it succeeded. HIDDEN ANGLE 3 — CHRIS STAPLETON SPENT 15 YEARS UNKNOWN IN NASHVILLE BEFORE THIS NIGHT Before the 2015 CMA Awards, Stapleton had been a staff songwriter for 15 years writing hits for Darius Rucker, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan and George Strait. Nobody outside Nashville knew his name. One night changed everything. HIDDEN ANGLE 4 — THE ALBUM WENT FROM NUMBER 106 TO NUMBER ONE OVERNIGHT The week before the CMA performance, Traveller was sitting at number 106 on the Billboard 200. The morning after the performance with Justin Timberlake, it was number one. One performance. One night. HIDDEN ANGLE 5 — THE CO-WRITER WHO DIED BEFORE THE MIRACLE Linda Hargrove co-wrote Tennessee Whiskey. She died in 2013. Two years before the CMA performance. Two years before the number one album. Two years before 1.39 billion Spotify streams. She wrote the most successful country song in history and never saw it become what it became. HIDDEN ANGLE 6 — MORGAN WALLEN IS COMING FOR THE RECORD Wallen had five Diamond certifications by end of 2025. His Last Night has over 2 billion Spotify streams — more than Tennessee Whiskey. The Double Diamond record may not hold for long. ⏱ CHAPTERS: 0:00 — Twenty Million Units Sold 4:00 — Only Three Songs In History 8:00 — Hidden Angle 1 — Number 77 in 1981 13:00 — David Allan Coe Records It First 17:00 — Hidden Angle 2 — George Jones Takes It To Number 2 22:00 — 30 Years of Silence 26:00 — Hidden Angle 3 — 15 Years Unknown In Nashville 31:00 — The Staff Songwriter Nobody Knew 35:00 — Hidden Angle 4 — Number 106 To Number One Overnight 40:00 — The CMA Performance That Changed Everything 45:00 — Justin Timberlake And The Room That Stood Up 50:00 — Hidden Angle 5 — The Co-Writer Who Died Before The Miracle 55:00 — Linda Hargrove — Her Story 59:00 — Hidden Angle 6 — Morgan Wallen Is Coming For The Record 64:00 — Who Is Chris Stapleton — Where He Came From 70:00 — Staffordsville Kentucky — Coal Country 75:00 — 15 Years Writing For Other People 80:00 — The Voice That Cannot Be Explained 🔔 Subscribe — Country Music Untold — new stories every week. #TennesseeWhiskey #ChrisStapleton #TennesseeWhiskeyDoubleD iamond #ChrisStapletonTennesseeWhiskey #DoubleD iamond #TennesseeWhiskeyRIAA #ChrisStapletonFullStory #TennesseeWhiskeyHidden #DeanDillon #LindaHargrove #TennesseeWhiskeyHistory #ChrisStapleton2026 #CountryMusicUntold #TennesseeWhiskey20Million #ChrisStapletonDocumentary
