Nach einem Gedicht von einem fliegenden Blatt aus dem dreißigjährigen Krieg (1618-1648), also etwa 100 Jahre nach der Blütezeit der Landsknechte im 16. Jahrhundert entstanden. Zuerst veröffentlicht in: Bergliederbüchlein (1740). Die Melodie dazu stammt von dem geistlichen Lied "Wer will ein Streiter Jesu sein" von Hieronymus Annoni ( 1697-1770), zuerst veröffentlicht in: Wernigerödische Sammlung geistlicher Lieder, l767.
