This Canadian mountain looks like someone stacked dozens of enormous slabs of rock on top of each other. But scientists discovered something strange about how those layers actually formed. Just outside Kelowna, British Columbia, stands Layer Cake Mountain, one of Canada's most unusual geological formations. Its cliff face contains approximately twenty-eight remarkably regular layers that look like separate volcanic lava flows. For decades, the obvious explanation seemed simple: repeated eruptions had built the mountain one layer at a time. But a scientific investigation published in 1998 revealed evidence of something very different. In this Hidden Canada documentary, we investigate the geological mystery of Layer Cake Mountain, the ancient volcanic history of British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, and the remarkable discovery that changed how geologists understood this formation. We'll explore the strange Geotectobolt theory, the science behind the mountain's unusual layers, the ancient faults that shaped the region, and the fascinating history hidden inside Scenic Canyon. We'll also visit the mysterious Pinnacle rock formation, explore evidence of ancient glaciers, and uncover traces of prehistoric forests that once existed in British Columbia. *How could one cooling body of volcanic rock develop layers that look like dozens of separate eruptions?* The answer is far more interesting than it first appears. 📍 Location: Layer Cake Mountain, Scenic Canyon, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. 🔬 Scientific research: Greenough, J.
