The Rolex Daytona 116520 sits at an interesting point in the Daytona lineage. It kept the steel-bezel look of the previous 16520, but introduced Rolex's in-house Calibre 4130 — a movement that would continue into the ceramic-bezel 116500LN. In this video, I take a close look at my late-production black-dial 116520: the silver counter rings, polished steel bezel and center links, Calibre 4130, solid-link bracelet, Easylink, and what it's actually like to wear. I also cover the things that bother me in daily use — including the screw-down chronograph pushers, legibility under certain lighting, and the scratches that inevitably come with a polished steel bezel. For me, the 116520 is the sweet spot: the steel-bezel look of the previous generation, with the in-house movement that carried on into its successor.
