This sketch captures the dunes of the Coachella Desert near Whitewater, just below the Banning Pass. I’m drawn to the beauty of this place, where wind-sculpted dunes and fauna meet the rugged beginnings of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with the desert stretching out below. The wind is almost constant, making it a rare opportunity to settle in and paint. But when conditions allow, the landscape is extraordinary—a meeting of mountain, sand, and open desert that keeps drawing me back.
