LIVE: ‘We Will Examine’: Will SC Address Pleas Over Alleged Unilateral EC Decisions? | The Federal

The Election Commission, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and the two Election Commissioners filed a joint, nearly 250-page counter-affidavit in the Supreme Court on October 26. Submitted by Deputy Election Commissioner Bhanu Prakash Yeturu, the affidavit states that all decisions regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and related orders were approved unanimously by the three commissioners. The EC denied media reports and allegations suggesting a rift within the Commission or claiming that the other commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, were kept in the dark or objected to the revisions. It described such claims as “erroneous” and denied them. The affidavit also argues that petitions seeking action against the CEC are not legally maintainable and maintains that the SIR process complies with the law. Is the affidavit filed by the EC misleading? Is the Supreme Court taking too long to resolve the matter?
