This is great beginner information! Experienced players might find this useful too when thinking about having healthy hands.
Matched Grip vs. Traditional Grip
Two ways to hold your sticks, two different feels. Matched grip (both hands mirrored) is the modern standard for rock, pop, and hip-hop — easier to learn and more versatile. Traditional grip (left hand angled) traces back to marching drums and is still favored in American classical styles for its subtlety on the ride cymbal and snare ghost notes. Try both this week and notice which feels natural — there's no wrong answer, just different tools for different music.
