Carolina Kostner (ITA) | Turin 2006 FS – "Winter" (9th place, Aus. 7)

Summary: At Turin 2006, Carolina Kostner took the ice for her free skate under enormous pressure as the leading Italian woman competing before a home crowd. Sitting 11th after the short program, the 19-year-old skated her distinctive program to Vivaldi’s Winter from The Four Seasons, but the performance never fully came together technically: her planned opening triple flip–triple toe became a triple flip–double toe, and further mistakes, including a problematic Lutz close to the boards, limited her technical score despite a stronger triple loop and the speed, elegant lines and skating quality that were already hallmarks of her style. Kostner earned 99.73 points (43.84 TES / 55.89 PCS), placing 9th in the free skate and lifting her to 9th overall with 153.50 points—a difficult home performance in an event where expectations surrounding the young Italian star were exceptionally high.
