SPITI VALLEY ROAD TRIP --- DAY 4 – PART 2 After an incredible and spiritual trek to Dhankar Lake, our journey through the beautiful Spiti Valley continues as we explore the ancient village of Dhankar and the historic Dhankar Monastery. 🏔️🙏 Perched dramatically amidst the mountains, Dhankar is not just another beautiful village in Spiti — it holds a fascinating place in the history of the valley. Dhankar was the traditional capital of the Spiti Valley Kingdom during the 17th century and was once the seat of the early rulers of Spiti, known as the Nonos. Some features of the settlement date back to the 12th century, making this one of the most historically fascinating places on our Spiti road trip. Walking through the old village and exploring Dhankar Monastery, we got to experience a beautiful combination of history, spirituality, culture and raw Himalayan landscapes. 🏔️ From the ancient capital of Spiti, we then continued our drive towards Kaza — the administrative capital of Spiti Valley, which would be our home for the next 3 days as we explored more of this incredible Himalayan region.
