Yerkes Observatory - 8/17/16 - Williams Bay WI - Explore Scientific Eyepieces

Dan Koehler of Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay WI had an opportunity to make the Largest Refractor in the World an outreach observing program. Dan needed eyepieces. The telescope hadn't been used for observing for many, many years. He spent much time testing the best eyepieces in the business. I received a call while at the Explore Scientific office from Dan (who I knew of but did not know) telling me he had chosen Explore Scientific 82° eyepieces to be used for visual observing through this world famous telescope. Being one that loves an opportunity to promote our brand and look through huge telescopes, I asked if we could come and see the scope and take a look through the scope. He agreed and a month later Scott, Jon and I took off for an opportunity to create some content and see through this scope. We went back 3-4 times. I will always remember these trips to see Dan and the big telescope! Dan passed away February 27, 2022. He was 64. The mounting and tube for the 40-inch telescope was exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago before being installed in the Yerkes observatory and Dedicated on October 21, 1897.
