"More than landless people, we are a seedless people. The problem is not the land. It's the seed." Mo Molemi sits down with DJ Lemonka on Motswako Mantaga to unpack one of the most layered album concepts in recent SA Hip Hop history: SEEDLESS. The title goes deeper than it looks. Seedless fruit you can't replant. Cannabis now legal but the seed and the value chain owned by multinationals, not the people who built the culture around it. Seeds you don't own and can't replant. A generation with land but no means of production. A people who have been made dependent on others for the very things they need to grow. "We have the land," Mo says, "but we don't have the seed." In this episode, Mo also opens up about the passing of #Dramaboi, the gifted young lyricist he met at 17, featured on Soma, and whose death stopped him from wanting to rap entirely. Until something forced him to pick up the pen again. And what came out of that grief became SEEDLESS. He talks about the album's producer Tuks Senganga, his day one, who taught himself production and whose growth Mo watched from the very beginning. we talk about his Botswana roots and the family history that connects him to the land going back generations. About being a blue collar man and an artist simultaneously and no longer feeling the need to explain the contradiction, and what comes after rap.
