Is gentle parenting raising spoilt children? Or have we misunderstood what gentle parenting actually means? These days, gentle parenting is a popular topic, but it is also one that sparks a lot of arguments. Some people believe it encourages children to become disrespectful, entitled and difficult to discipline. Others believe it is possible to raise well-behaved children without shouting, threatening or using fear as the main tools of discipline. But what exactly is gentle parenting? How did the term come about, and why do people have such different opinions about it? In Part 1 of this discussion, we're looking at the meaning of gentle parenting, why the term became popular, and the confusion surrounding gentle parenting, permissive parenting and authoritative parenting. We'll also examine why some parents struggle to apply gentle parenting effectively and whether the problem is really gentle parenting itself or the way some people practise it. Because let's be honest: being gentle with a child does not mean allowing the child to do whatever they want. And discipline does not automatically mean shouting, harshness or punishment. So, where do we draw the line? Can a parent be gentle and still set firm boundaries, correct a child and expect obedience? Watch till the end and share your thoughts in the comments. Do you think gentle parenting raises spoilt children, or do you think the problem is how it is understood and practised? This is Part 1 of a two-part discussion. In Part 2, we'll examine gentle parenting from a biblical and kingdom perspective.
