Scuba Diving with Angel Sharks in Fuerteventura | Veril Grande

We came to Fuerteventura hoping to dive with critically endangered angel sharks — but after spending almost an entire day crossing the island through Saharan dust, I was starting to wonder if I’d even be able to dive. After arriving in Morro Jable, we finally headed out to Veril Grande, one of the dive sites I had been most excited to visit in the Canary Islands. Somehow, we found six angel sharks buried in the sand, along with barracuda, groupers, and plenty of other marine life. The angel sharks, however, were not particularly interested in cooperating for photos. Our second dive took us just outside the harbor, where stronger current made the swim a little tougher but led to one of my favorite moments of the trip — swimming through a massive school of fish as yellow and silver flashed around us. This trip didn’t come with some huge life-changing realization.
