Taxi Driver (1976) - God's Lonely Man? - (First time Reaction & Commentary)

Travis Bickle is universally celebrated as the ultimate cinematic icon of loneliness and isolation. But what happens when you look past the surface smoke and neon mist, straight into the core of the person? For me, this wasn’t the tragic journey of a complex hero. It felt like watching a system running on junk files - completely offline and disconnected from its own core. I have a strong sense of self, and it’s difficult for me to viscerally relate to someone who walks through the world blindly, projecting his internal unresolved turmoil onto everyone else instead of looking into his own reflection in the mirror. If you have ever been in Travis’s shoes, or if you are fighting that kind of emptiness right now… How does that place actually feel like from the inside? And what helped you break out of that hollow, dark loop and find your anchor? (If you did…) I must admit, though, that this is an extremely well done movie. I actually wanted to film and edit a bunch of Hannibals but, somehow, it didn't happen. I guess this movie not only demanded me to watch it but to also edit it ahead of the schedule as well. :D Anyway, it is done now. Although, as I'm writing this, I am exporting it for the 3rd time (takes about 2h each time), because YouTube finds something new it doesn't like with each upload.
