A survey lists a field under one party. A local document lists the same field under somebody else. Neither is a forgery and neither was written to deceive. The contradiction is in the question: it assumes owning is one single thing you either have or do not have, entire and undivided.
This video pulls the single word apart into separate strands. One claim is to a quantity arriving each year and nothing else; another is to working the plot; another to passing it on. The pharaoh held one strand over nearly everything, very strongly — which is why a survey can list a plot under him entirely while a local deed records a sale that is perfectly real: one strand changed hands and the others did not. We test the readings by asking whether a contemporary would have noticed anything odd, look at a gap in the record that has to be argued from what else is present, admit that other frameworks have been tried, and find the same awkwardness alive in property law right now.
