Zaharakis...ZAHARAKIS!!!

In just his fourth game, a 19-year-old David Zaharakis etched his name into Essendon folklore by kicking the legendary winning goal with seconds to spare in the 2009 ANZAC Day match against Collingwood. Not content to simply dine out on that one moment of glory forever, the man affectionately dubbed ‘Zakka’ went on to forge a fine career in the red & black, the team he supported as a child. That career included 226 games, 136 goals, a Best & Fairest in 2011 and the ANZAC Medal in 2013. He was a warrior for the footy club in the darkest of times and sadly holds the record of most games for the Bombers without ever winning a final, playing only in three losing elimination finals. 2021 is the year we say goodbye to David Zaharakis and wish him all the best in his future.
