Lough Ree Episode 1/4 "Trough the mists of time" This video introduces this series of videos about the amazing stories around Lough Ree. Bounded by 3 different counties Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon, and encircling over 60 islands of all sizes, it is a place of both ancient and modern wonders. From its past as potentially the birthplace of the Irish Christian church, to its stories and ruins of battles and invasions, to the unique island living that is slowly drifting into memory only, this area of Ireland is both beautiful, virtually untouched by modern tourism, and strewn with history everywhere you look. It is truly a magical place. This video series is an action of the following Heritage Offices: Longford County Council under the County Longford Heritage Plan 2019-2025, and funded by The Heritage Council.
