Jaldapara Jungle Safari | Jaldapara National Park | Shalkumar Gate Surrounded by dense green forests, sunlight filtering through the gaps between the leaves, and the distant calls of unknown birds echoing through the wilderness! Somewhere deep inside this forest, a one-horned rhinoceros might be hiding behind the tall grass. Perhaps a herd of wild elephants will appear in a little while, or maybe we will suddenly spot a wild animal standing right beside our jeep! Today, we are heading to one of North Bengal's most popular wildlife destinations – Jaldapara National Park – to experience an exciting jungle safari! First of all, we have arrived at the Shalkumar Gate of Jaldapara. We are standing in the queue to book our jungle safari. The safari booking charge is ₹1,400 per vehicle, and the guide charge is ₹350. Each vehicle can accommodate up to six people. At the time of booking, you need to fill out this application form with all the required information. You must also show an original government-issued identity card and submit a photocopy along with the application form. After completing the booking, we had lunch at Shalkumar Market, located nearby, and then got ready to begin our journey. Far away from the noise and chaos of city life, the sounds of nature become the biggest attraction here. Our safari timing is from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Unfortunately, we got delayed by around 10–15 minutes because of lunch. By the time we arrived, all the other safari vehicles had already left. Anyway, we finally started our safari at around 4:15 PM. North Bengal is all about beautiful mountains, rivers, tea gardens and breathtaking landscapes. And among these wonderful natural attractions lies a truly unique destination – Jaldapara. Located in the Alipurduar district, this national park is primarily famous for its Indian one-horned rhinoceros. But Jaldapara is not just about rhinos. Its vast grasslands, dense forests, rivers and diverse wildlife make it a fascinating destination for nature lovers. On both sides of the road, we can see dense green vegetation. In some places, there are vast stretches of grassland, while in others, the forest is so thick that sunlight can barely reach the ground. The most exciting thing about a wildlife safari is that nothing is guaranteed. Sometimes you have to wait for a long time, while at other times, a wild animal suddenly appears right before your eyes. So, keeping our eyes and ears open, we continue our journey deeper into the forest. This forest is home to numerous species of wildlife and birds. Visitors may come across different species of deer, wild elephants and a variety of birds. However, spotting a particular animal depends on the time, surroundings and, of course, a little bit of luck. Every turn along the forest trail brings the possibility of discovering something new. Sometimes it's a bird sitting on a tree branch, sometimes a movement in the grasslands, and sometimes the distant presence of an animal hidden somewhere in the forest. All these little moments make this safari feel like a live exhibition of nature! Whenever someone mentions Jaldapara, the first animal that comes to mind is the magnificent Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Jaldapara is one of the most important habitats for this rare and fascinating animal. For anyone who loves nature, enjoys wildlife watching or is planning a different kind of family holiday, Jaldapara is definitely a destination worth considering. However, before visiting, make sure to check the authorised safari timings, booking procedures and the latest entry guidelines. And most importantly, always respect the rules of the forest and never disturb the wildlife. #jaldapara #jaldaparajunglesafari #junglesafari
