1970 Dodge Charger HEMI showdown: a triple black 1970 Charger R/T SE with a period-correct 426 HEMI vs. RM30, the Viper Red 1970 Dodge Charger RestoMod with a BluePrint 426 Gen 3 HEMI. Which would you keep? 00:00 Two 1970 Dodge Charger HEMIs: restored vs. RestoMod 00:35 Triple black 1970 Charger R/T SE with a period-correct 426 HEMI 01:30 RM30: BluePrint 426 Gen 3 HEMI and the build philosophy 03:00 Plan: driving both Chargers back to back 03:49 First drive: clutch, steering and throttle 04:53 Wheels, tires and suspension compared 07:43 Switching cars: seat belts, comfort and feel 09:00 Highway cruising: steering, suspension and HEMI torque 10:40 Creature comforts: A/C, Bluetooth, wireless phone charger 11:19 Brakes: six-piston calipers vs. period brakes 12:06 Verdict: both 1970 Chargers are wildly different We put two iconic 1970 Dodge Chargers head to head and drove them back to back to see what time, technology and aftermarket parts really change. The triple black Charger is a nearly stock R/T SE: it was originally optioned with a 440, but a period-correct 426 HEMI with a dual quad intake and a four-speed was installed before we got it. RM30 is the ground-up RestoMods build, a brand new feeling 1970 Dodge Charger with a modern Gen 3 426 HEMI, QA1 suspension, Wilwood brakes and a Tremec 5-speed. Steering, clutch, brakes, wheels and tires, comfort and sound all feel completely different, and you'll hear what each 1970 Charger does well. Would you stay true to the classic roots or go full RestoMod? 🤘 1970 Black Triple Black HEMI Charger RT/SE: This almost fully stock 1970 Charger RT/SE is a blank canvas waiting to be transformed. Would you stay true to its classic roots, or are we going full-on restomod? 🏎 Viper Red 1970 Charger 426ci Gen 3 HEMI: This custom Charger was ground up built by the RestoMods team with a BluePrint 426ci Gen 3 HEMI, Tremec TKX 5-speed, QA1 suspension, Wilwood brakes, MagnaFlow exhaust, American Racing wheels, Sparco seats, Dakota Digital gauges, and lots more. This one arrived to our shop running and driving, but you know us... we couldn't leave good enough alone.
