See A Prescribed Burn Workshop at Cross Timbers Bison with Oaks & Prairies Joint Venture

Prescribed fire and grazing help to maintain grasslands! Rancher Dusty Baker of ‪@CrossTimbersBison‬ is using both to provide forage, control woody plants, increase biodiversity and enhance wildlife habitat. On July 31st, 2026, Oaks and Prairies Joint Venture held a prescribed burn workshop at Cross Timbers Bison Ranch where attendees learned how to conduct a prescribed fire. Cole Fagen, and other fire professionals talked about burn plans and preparing a burn unit. A field demonstration included a 9 acre prescribed burn where attendees laid wet lines, drove fire suppression equipment, ran driptorches, and helped with mop up.
