Living Alone Diary, Surviving The Storm By Grandma’a Comfort Food

Yuka is living alone in her boat house in Japan when a powerful storm suddenly hits. What begins as an ordinary evening quickly becomes a night of survival. The wind grows stronger, heavy rain pounds against the windows, and the entire boat house begins to shake with the storm. Then Yuka discovers water dripping through the roof. One leak becomes several. She rushes around her home placing buckets underneath the leaking roof, trying to keep the floors from flooding while the storm continues outside. The boat house creaks and sways under the violent weather, furniture rattles, dishes shake, and the rain becomes impossible to ignore. With the electricity and comfort of home no longer feeling secure, Yuka prepares Grandma’s comfort food — a warm homemade meal that reminds her of childhood and gives her something familiar to hold onto during a frightening night alone. But the storm isn’t over yet. By the next morning, Yuka discovers that the boat house has been badly damaged. The roof has leaked, parts of the house are shattered, and the peaceful home she knows looks completely different.
