Japanese summer is full of lively festivals 🎐, from traditional Bon Odori dances 🏮to local neighborhood celebrations ✨ Famous festivals like the Gion Matsuri can be extremely crowded 😅, and finding trains and hotels 🏨 during the festival season can be quite difficult 🚆 But you don't have to visit a famous festival to experience this part of Japanese culture 😊. Even small local neighborhood festivals are open for people to watch and join in 🎆 A carpenter I know built a traditional mikoshi ⛩️ (portable shrine), and this mikoshi was going to be carried in Tachikawa, Tokyo, so we went to see it together 💪 I was curious about who actually carries a mikoshi, so I asked some of the participants about their jobs. The group included a member of the House of Councillors, a restaurant owner 🍽️, nurses 👩‍⚕️, dentists, doctors 👨‍⚕️, childcare workers 👶, retirees, and many others Some people even came all the way ✨ from Saitama, Chiba, and Shizuoka 🚆 just to take part in this festival 🗾 After the mikoshi procession, everyone gathered together 😄 for some cold beer and good conversation 🍺 It rained ☔️ from time to time, but it was still a very hot summer day 🥵☀️ This isn't a typical tourist experience — 🏙️ it's a glimpse into the everyday life and local traditions of Tokyo 🇯🇵 Come along and enjoy this local Japanese summer festival with me🚶‍♀️, as if you were living in Tokyo too 🏮✨ Come and enjoy with me! 📍 https://maps.app.goo.gl/UCPYEK7RDtpHL... 🌺Watch more walks through everyday Japan    • Walk Through Edo Japan 🇯🇵Rainy Ouchi-juku ...      • 🇯🇵Keisei Rose Garden in Chiba   #Tokyo #Japan #JapaneseFestival #Mikoshi #SummerInJapan #BonOdori #EverydayJapan #TokyoLife #LifeInJapan #LiveLikeALocal #JapanWalking #enjoy
