Ex-IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan joins Congress

Former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan officially joined the Congress party on October 13, 2025. He had previously served as the secretary of the Power, Urban Development, and Town & Country Planning departments in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Gopinathan had resigned from the IAS in 2019, protesting against the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, citing concerns over democratic principles and governance. Hailing from Kottayam, Kerala, he completed his schooling in Puthuppally and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology before joining the IAS in 2012.
