The Phoenix Park is one of the largest enclosed public parks in any capital cities in Europe, with 11km of perimeter wall. Since the 17th century, it has been home to a herd of wild fallow deer. Today, the herd consists of approximately 600 deer. The Phoenix Park supports 50% of the mammal species found in Ireland and about 40% of bird species. The Wellington Monument, also known as sometimes the Wellington Testimonial, can be found in the Phoenix Park. Completed in 1861, it is the largest obelisk in Europe at 62 metres (203 ft) tall.
