75-Year-Old Grandma Living Alone and Rich in a Mountain Far From Civilization

Far from civilization, a 75-year-old grandmother keeps a mountain farm running through relentless daily work. Found Villages visits her remote home, reached by a steep and dangerous mountain trail. After losing her husband, son, and daughter-in-law, she has spent seven years caring for her three young grandchildren. This film follows the grandmother’s daily work; her grandchildren remain off camera. She tends 30 sheep, feeds and milks her sheep and cows, and scatters grain for the chickens. Inside her mountain home, she washes dishes, cleans, and kneads dough to bake 14 traditional tandir breads. The work continues in the garden, where she harvests a pumpkin and fills it with rice and chickpeas before cooking it in the clay oven. She also churns homemade butter and carries firewood into the shed.
