The John Deere 550CS is a rebadged Homelite 8800, evidently sold in 1996 & 1997 by John Deere dealers. Other than the obvious color difference, the only other major difference from it's Homelite counterpart is the addition of some sort of sealant around the rubber parts. All of the service procedures here will directly translate to working on a Homelite 8800; much of this is applicable to the earlier 540 as well.
