Ch4 Surah An-Nisa (Ayat 43-47)

Surah An-Nisa 4:43–47 *Ayah 43 — Conditions for prayer* Believers are told not to approach prayer while intoxicated, until they know what they're saying, nor in a state of major ritual impurity (except when just passing through/traveling) until they've bathed. It also introduces *tayammum* (dry ablution with clean earth) as an alternative when someone is ill, travelling, has relieved themselves, or has been intimate with their spouse and cannot find water — showing the practical flexibility built into worship. *Ayah 44 — A warning about misguidance* This verse points to certain people who were given a portion of earlier scripture but chose error instead, and who wish to see believers led astray as well. *Ayah 45 — Allah as sufficient protector* A reassurance that Allah knows best who the real enemies are, and that He is sufficient as a Protector and Helper for the believers. *Ayah 46 — Distortion of words* This describes how some among those who distorted their scripture would twist words from their proper meanings and use double-edged phrases (ambiguous in Arabic, mocking in intent) to subtly ridicule the Prophet ﷺ and the message, rather than responding sincerely. *Ayah 47 — A call to those given earlier scripture* Addressed to the People of the Book, urging them to believe in what has now been revealed (confirming what they already had), with a warning about the consequences of continued rejection — including a reference to the fate of those who violated the Sabbath. These ayaat move from practical guidance on maintaining purity and sincerity in worship, into a broader discussion of intellectual and spiritual honesty — contrasting sincere faith with the deliberate distortion and mockery practiced by some who received earlier revelation.
