Lando Norris led from the pole but his win in Madrid fell away when a brief Virtual Safety Car intervention came a few seconds too late for him on lap 15 (of 57): by the time he had completed another lap the race was on again. Charles Leclerc, who didn't stop under the VSC, then led for Ferrari for most of the distance but ultimately it was Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli who scored the eighth win of the year, leading across the line the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the charging McLaren of Norris. Leclerc finished P4, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, but Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton was an early retirement with a brake problem.
