Life Changing Prayer, Week 4: Why Fast? | Life of Faith Church | October 25th, 2026

Pastor Mark teaches that prayer and fasting are not ways to earn God’s favor or change Him, but practices that help us turn away from distractions, grow in self-control, humble ourselves before God, and allow our spirit to lead rather than our flesh. Using the illustration of the body as a wild horse that needs direction, he explains that believers are already complete in Christ and have been given everything they need for life and godliness, but must learn to live in the fullness of what God has provided. He explores Jesus’ teaching about prayer and fasting in Matthew 17, explaining that the disciples’ struggle to cast out a demon was connected to unbelief and distraction rather than the demon’s power, and that fasting helps us remain focused on God and confident in His authority. He emphasizes that fasting should be Spirit-led, voluntary, and rooted in humility rather than pride, religious performance, or an attempt to manipulate God.
