On Sunday morning a memorial Mass and silent march were held for the victims of the Crans-Montana bar fire. Loudspeakers and a big screen allowed a large crowd of more than 1,000 people to follow the ceremony from inside and outside the Catholic Chappelle Saint-Christophe in Crans-Montana.
Many of the victims were in their teens or twenties, some of them burnt beyond recognition. Anger has grown over suggestions the bar may have turned a blind eye to under-age drinking and neglected fire regulations. Besides the dead, 119 people suffered serious burns.
Police said on Sunday that they had identified 24 of those killed in the fire. The bodies of two Swiss women, aged 21 and 16, and two Swiss men, aged 18 and 16, have been returned to their families. Police said that ten Swiss people, two Italians, one person with Italian-Emirati citizenship, one Romanian, one person from France and one from Turkey had been identified.
