Never Do THIS in a Russian Home!

You walk into a Russian home wearing your outdoor shoes... and everyone freezes. 😳 If you've ever watched an American movie and seen someone walk through the house — or even lie on a bed — wearing the same shoes they wore outside, you probably didn't think twice about it. A Russian viewer probably did. In Russia, taking off your outdoor shoes as soon as you enter someone's home isn't just good manners. For most of us, it's a basic question of hygiene. Wearing outdoor shoes inside means bringing everything from the street into the place that's supposed to be clean and separate from the outside world. And it doesn't stop with shoes. Many Russians also have outdoor clothes and home clothes — clothes we change into when we come home and normally wouldn't wear outside. In this video, I'll explain why this habit feels so natural to Russians — and why certain scenes in American movies can be surprisingly uncomfortable for us to watch. 😄 What about your country?
