What role can technology, data and innovation play in transforming Africa’s road infrastructure? In this interview, Eng. Mbima Byron from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships, shares insights from the Digitalization of Road Toll and Weighing Systems Training held at AFRALTI in Nairobi. Participating both as a facilitator and a learner, Eng. Byron discusses the importance of digital tolling systems, data analytics, AI, project management and technology integration in improving road sector operations, revenue collection and informed decision-making. He also highlights the value of bringing together professionals from different African countries to exchange experiences, build networks and learn from best practices across the continent. Looking to the future, he calls for greater focus on emerging digital trends, research and the development of African solutions to African challenges, while adapting international best practices to local contexts. The programme was delivered through the ARMFA–AFRALTI partnership from 17–21 August 2026, bringing together road sector professionals to strengthen capacity in the digitalization and modernization of road toll and weighing systems. 🎥 Watch the interview for insights into the future of technology-driven road infrastructure in Africa. #AFRALTI #ARMFA #KeNHA #DigitalTransformation #DigitalTolling #RoadInfrastructure #ArtificialIntelligence #DataAnalytics #Technology #CapacityBuilding #Africa
