Crafton’s Blues

Merry #texasstyletuesday to you and yours! The day after Festivus and the day before Christmas is a perfect day to just real quick, learn a Texas style fiddle tune. This could be the start of a new family tradition. Here’s Crafton’s Blues - a perfect place to start. Word on the street is that it was written by Ocie Stockard, referring to a now disappeared town called Crafton, Texas, and played in Milton Brown’s Musical Brownies. That’s a band I think I would have liked to be in. Like many of these old rag style tunes, the chord progression never changes but the wild variation in the melody makes it seem like it does. Only the turnaround at the end of each section reminds you that it’s all the same. This tune is a great place to add to your key of F lick vocabulary. Which, if you’re going to play Texas style, should be a pretty high priority for you. Off you go then. Put your nog down and get your rag on. #ragsinF #crafty #crafton #youthoughtidplayachristmassong
