Wood Arrow Tuning for Longbow: Short vs Long Arrows

In this video, I take a closer look at how wood arrow length affects my shooting with a Bear Montana Longbow 45# and whether shorter arrows can improve performance when shooting with a gap. For the indoor paper season, I’ve been shooting full-length 32" 60-65lb Douglas Fir arrows from Sherwood Shafts, fletched with 5" pink banana cut feathers and 160 grains on the point. For this experiment, I cut a set of cedar arrows from 32" to 29". The Cedar wood arrows are from Rose City Archery with 5" parabolic cut natural bard feathers. I shoot multiple ends on a standard NFAA blue single spot paper target, alternating between: Shorter cedar arrows BLACK and WHITE FEATHERS (cut down for gap shooting) Full-length Douglas fir arrows PINK FEATHERS (my indoor setup) I repeat the process to get a consistent comparison, then move into paper tuning the wood arrows to see how each arrow is flying and what kind of tear I’m getting in the paper. This isn’t about what’s “right” or “wrong” in traditional archery, just a real look at what happens when I adjust arrow length and how it affects my shooting.
