Strauss Conducts Also Sprach Zarathustra (1944)

Richard Strauss Also Sprach Zarathustra Op. 30 Richard Strauss, conductor Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Recorded on June 13, 1944 in the Grosser Musikvereinsaal, Vienna In their own way the Strauss Recordings from 1944 are among the Holy Grail of restoration, and they have been just as elusive. Their provenance goes back to the 1970s, when tape copies were presented to a recording executive by the Strauss family. We will not retell the tale here. It simply goes that "Zarathustra" had severe technical and sonic issues that have been with every issue since then. We have posted it four times on this channel, and each time we were disappointed by the results. This is a new approach. Often it comes down to a recording being overloaded with too much signal, and the only solution is the "less is more" approach to get closer to the sound. That is what we have done here. Judge for yourself the result. Of course, any time that Strauss was on the podium we get his music at its finest. Another effort was certainly justified here. 24-Bit Full Fidelity Restoration (2026): Paul Howard - The Yucaipa Studio In order for our posts to remain commercial-free, we do not monetize on this channel.
