Deck the Halls opens almost two hours of carols in order. 21 carols in all. On screen, filmed in 4K: The film opens in a snowy castle courtyard at twilight, a stage set with instruments and chandeliers beside a towering Christmas tree; then candlelit concert halls and gilded ballrooms dressed for Christmas, cathedral naves glowing with candles, a decorated pipe organ, brass and strings resting among pine garlands and red velvet bows, an orchestra playing beneath a giant tree in a snowy square, and the old town, Christmas markets and snowy mountain trails outside. There are no lyrics on screen; the scenes are a calm backdrop for the music. Jingle Bells, Joy to the World and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen keep the start bright and festive; deeper into the night come Away in a Manger, What Child Is This, O Holy Night and The First Noel, and the a cappella choir returns between them like a hush in a candlelit room.
