The video outlines the rolling (or moving) dismount, a skill used to navigate obstacles or bypass struggling riders in competitive or practice settings. The Rolling (Moving) Dismount The process for executing a rolling dismount involves the following steps: Preparation: Begin well in advance of the intended dismount point. Leg Movement: Take the right foot off the pedal and swing it around behind the bike. Stabilization: Rest the right foot behind the left foot, which remains on its pedal. While doing this, push the bike's saddle against the hip to stabilize it. Execution: Step down with the right foot, then step off the pedal with the left foot, and walk to a stop. Training and Progression To master the dismount, the following techniques are recommended: Kick and Glide: Practice kicking off with the right foot to maintain forward momentum while gliding with the saddle against the hip. Phased Practice: Initially, have riders perform the dismount and walk to a stop before returning to their bikes to try again. Integration: Eventually, progress to incorporating the rolling mount to combine both skills. Common Errors and Solutions Coaches should watch for and correct the following: Rushing: Encourage riders to start the process early to avoid simply "falling off" the bike. Poor Balance: Riders may struggle if they look down at their feet; remind them to keep their head up and look forward to maintain balance and direction. Speed Issues: If riders are moving too slowly during the dismount, have them maintain slightly more speed to reach a gliding state before slowing down with the brakes.
