Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel Southbound

The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel carries the Hampton Roads Beltway (Interstate 664) across Hampton Roads Harbor between the cities of Hampton and Suffolk. The nearby Norfolk Naval Station had a significant influence in the crossing's design - it's 4.6 mile total length instead features a 4,800 ft. tunnel beneath the center navigation channel. The crossing opened in 1992. It is named in honor of the two ironclad warships involved in one of the most important battles in the history of naval warfare.
