( https://itch.io/jam/gbretrodev24 ) Organized by the University of Alicante, this international contest celebrates the creativity and determination of student groups who have embarked on an incredible journey: creating their very first Game Boy games in assembly language—from scratch. With little to no prior knowledge of Game Boy development or assembly programming, these talented individuals had just seven weeks to learn, innovate, and bring their unique game ideas to life. Our esteemed panel of judges consists of graduates from the University of Alicante who created their own Game Boy assembly games as part of their final degree projects: Alberto Rius Poveda ( Crea tus juegos para Gameboy, 2024 ) Ángel Jesús Terol Martínez ( Golden Sacra, 2020 ) Ángel Navarro Martínez ( Galahad Escape!, 2019 ) David Girón Jareño ( Scarlet Witch, 2015 ) Enrique Vidal Cayuela ( Project Rogue, 2020 ) Jesús Hernández Fernández ( Packedtory, 2019 ) Víctor Conejero Vicente ( Whyrm, 2022 ) We're also honored to feature Alberto José González aka. Joe McAlby, a legendary Game Boy developer from the console's commercial era who continues to produce amazing games today, at Abylight, as our guest expert.
