What do Ethiopia’s ancient Christian texts actually say about Jesus’ resurrection—and how do those passages compare with the viral claims about Elon Musk’s Grok AI?
This documentary explores the Ethiopian Bible, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo tradition, and Christian writings preserved in Ge’ez. We follow the evidence from biblical book lists and the Garima Gospels to the Epistle of the Apostles, known as the Epistula Apostolorum.
One resurrection passage assigns Peter the marks in Jesus’ hands, Thomas the wound in his side, and Andrew the feet. Comparing this account with John 20 reveals the writing’s emphasis on physical contact and bodily resurrection.
We also examine the complete Ethiopic version alongside an incomplete Coptic witness and a Latin fragment. Why does chapter 17 preserve readings of 120 and 150 years? What can manuscript differences establish—and where does interpretation require more caution?
Along the way, we investigate:
• The Ethiopian Church’s published 81-book list and the problems with simplified “missing books” claims.
• Enoch, Jubilees and their ancient witnesses among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
• The Garima Gospel books, Ge’ez translation and the limits of radiocarbon dating.
• M. R. James’s 1924 translation and Francis Watson’s study of resurrection in the Epistle of the Apostles.
• The Council of Nicaea in 325 and claims about who selected the biblical canon.
• Getatchew Haile’s scholarship and the chronology behind an alleged reaction to Grok.
• The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML), the Ethiopian Manuscript Microfilm Library (EMML), and the distinction between digitization, cataloging and translation.
The story continues through HMML’s June 2025 digitization milestone and February 2026 catalog update, showing how communities, scholars and librarians make these manuscripts accessible.
This is an investigation of identifiable texts and sources. The alleged Grok conversation behind the reference videos has not been authenticated.
